As we're all hammered with deceptive ads in support of CMP's destructive corridor project, I would like to remind everyone that there has never been a comprehensive climate analysis for the project.
Last year, the Legislature considered Senator Brownie Carson's bill, LD 640, which would have required a comprehensive study of this project's impacts on global greenhouse emissions in an independent report by August 15 of last year.
In our eyes, that bill was necessary because Hydro-Quebec has never appeared before a regulatory body in Maine and they have never testified under oath either here in Maine or in New Hampshire during the regulatory process for the Northern Pass project that would have delivered this exact same energy to Massachusetts.
Because of this, there is absolutely no way of knowing if the energy they propose to deliver over this corridor through Maine is new, or if it is existing energy they will divert from other markets to Massachusetts, at an inflated rate (a shell game). If this likely scenario is the case, as the Massachusetts AG pointed out, this project will not result in the GLOBAL greenhouse gas reductions.
As I'm sure you all remember, CMP and Hydro-Quebec went to great expense to make sure that Mainers won't ever have the answer to this important question. They hired 30 lobbyists to kill LD 640, and are now spending record amounts on a PR campaign touting their unsubstantiated environmental claims to the voters.
Hydro-Quebec, owned solely by a foreign government, is spending millions on a campaign to influence Maine voters after ensuring that they would never have access to the information needed to make an informed decision on their for-profit project. It's plain wrong, and sets a dangerous precedent for the future.

Richard Aishton: Hydro-Quebec Impact Statement Would Answer Questions
A foreign company is spending large amounts of money to influence Mainers on an invasive, for-profit project that provides little for Mainers. Let’s ask Hydro-Quebec to fund an environmental impact statement. This will clear up most questions. Thanks to Dr. Richard Aishton, a resident of Farmington and environmental dynamics analyst and resident of Farmington. Click here to read the full letter.
Activist of the Week
This week, we would like to recognize Ed Buzzell from Pittsfield & Moxie Gore for his many efforts to defeat the CMP Corridor. A registered Maine Guide, recreator and business owner in The Forks, Ed has been with us from the very start. He served as a citizen intervenor at the DEP and LUPC, and presented sworn testimony at the PUC, ACOE, and Legislature. In addition to collecting many signatures himself, he served as a town captain both in The Forks and in Pittsfield. He has also authored many letters in Maine papers to help us spread the word that this project is a BAD DEAL FOR MAINE!
Ed's dedication to the great outdoors and western Maine extends well beyond this campaign. He's a three-time recipient of the Biggest Bucks in Maine Award and serves as President of the Old Canada Road Scenic Byway.
So please join us in thanking Ed for his tireless efforts on behalf of the cause.
Thank you all for your continued support!
